Traffic halted on Highway 6 for air ambulance landing
VERNON – Highway 6 was shut down and used as a landing strip for B.C. Air Ambulance over the weekend.
The aircraft was picking up a 60-year-old man from Edmonton who hit a deer while riding his BMW bike along Highway 6 near Angel Falls (close to the Needles Ferry) around 3:10 p.m. Saturday, May 23.
The deer ran out in front of him, and he didn’t have time to avoid it, RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says.
The man was flown to Kelowna General Hospital for treatment of chest and leg injuries, while a 30-year-old woman also from Edmonton was taken to hospital by ground ambulance. Her condition was less serious.
