Public meeting scheduled for victims of Cache Creek flooding

CACHE CREEK – With evacuation orders and alerts in place, as well as a state of local emergency declared, residents of Cache Creek might have a few questions. With that in mind the village has scheduled a public meeting for Tuesday evening.

Flash flooding caused extensive damage to the town on Saturday, May 23. A severe thunderstorm dropped heavy rain for two hours, along with periods of hail, and the creek and culverts backed up. The water was as high as eight feet in some areas according to search and rescue members and mud, sand and water spread out across roads and properties across town.

The meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, May 26, at the Cache Creek Community Hall, 1270 Stage Road, at 6 p.m.

Representatives from the various agencies will be available to answer questions, including those responsible for Disaster Financial Assistance.

An assessment of the damage is underway and the province approved disaster relief funding Monday.
