WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Jets have signed defenceman Leon Gawanke to a three-year, entry level contract.
The average annual value of the deal is US$810,000.
The 19-year-old German was taken by the Jets in the fifth round (136th overall) of the 2017 NHL draft.
Gawanke just completed his third season with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. He was third among QMJHL defencemen with 57 points (17 goals, 40 assists) in 62 games last season.
