Jackson ski resort town nears snowfall record for February

JACKSON, Wyo. – The ski resort town of Jackson, Wyoming is close to setting a snowfall record this month.

The Jackson Hole News & Guide reported Sunday that Jackson received over 43 inches (109 centimetres) of snow this month. That’s made it the snowiest February ever.

More snow is predicted and the amount so far is a few inches shy of making February the second-snowiest month in town history. December 2008 holds that record.

The most monthly snowfall in Jackson was 56 inches (142 centimetres) in January 1969.

Teton Pass was closed for avalanche control work Monday.

The Bridger Teton Avalanche Center says heavy snow and strong winds could create dangerous avalanche conditions through Tuesday in backcountry areas of the Absaroka Mountains, Jackson Hole, Star Valley and the Salt River and Wyoming ranges.
