KELOWNA – The Kelowna Rockets open the 2015-16 WHL pre-season with a home game against the Prince George Cougars tonight at Prospera Place.
It's the first of a five game WHL exhibition schedule and the first game of three straight Saturday nights in September the Rockets will host a WHL preseason game.
Several Kelowna prospects will make debuts tonight, Sept. 5, including European import draft pick Calvin Thurkauf, a 6-foot and-three-quarter native of Zug, Switzerland.
The Rockets will ice a mix of veterans and prospects as goalie Jackson Whistle will be in the lineup along with forward Cole Linaker and Tanner Wishnowski, now healthy after missing last season due to injury.
The Rockets will be hitting the ice in its 25th season as a WHL franchise while the WHL will celebrate its 50th season this year.
Kelowna opens the WHL's 50th season on Sept. 25 at home to Kamloops, part of a weekend home and home series between the two teams.
