PROVO, Utah – Authorities say a Utah teenager escaped more serious injury by grabbing an improvised rope as he fell near a waterfall.
Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon says the 17-year-old boy latched onto a garden hose after slipping near Bridal Veil Falls on Wednesday.
Cannon says he fell about 6 feet (2 metres) and hit his head, but the rope prevented him from tumbling farther down the cliff.
Rescue teams hoisted the teen from the cliff. He was transported to a Provo hospital.
Cannon says the boy was climbing up the falls with a group of teens.
He says people hiking or climbing in the mountains should always have the proper training and gear.
