POULSEN: The one big Harper lie that finally did it

Having voted Liberal for the first time in some 20 years, maybe my story has a bearing on what happened.

Turning points. A good choice would be the Munk debate when Justin blew away his shadow of wussiness and beat Harper like a bum of the month in the ring. Harper was just not ready.

I was half way there.

There are lies and damnable lies.

Justin said Harper has ruined the economy, a lie. Harper said Justin would ruin the economy, also a lie. But these are garden variety lies that everyone expects during a campaign.

Then the Conservatives delivered possibly the biggest whopper ever heard in a Canadian campaign.

They targeted ethnic ridings, warning that Justin would hook children on marijuana and put brothels and injection sites in your neighbourhood.

Tory candidate Terence Young took it a step further, declaring:
". . . legally-protected brothels with madams and all that goes with that because the Liberals have promised to legalize the selling of women in Canada. What family would invest their life savings in a home near a marijuana store, a brothel or a drug-injection site."

It was a laughably preposterous and cynical accusation. Harper let ride.

I wasn't going to vote for someone who thinks I'm stupid.
