Vernon RCMP investigating more poppy donation thefts

VERNON – Police in Vernon are looking into new reports of stolen Remembrance Day poppy donations.

The Vernon RCMP announced today, Nov. 9, an arrest had been made in connection with a Nov. 2 poppy donation theft at Bosley’s pet store, but Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy says police are also investigating two other similar thefts.

On Nov. 4 around 10:40 p.m., a poppy donation box was stolen from the Tim Hortons on Highway 6, Noseworthy says.

“The box was later found and returned, but the money can was missing,” she says, adding police don’t know how much money was stolen.

A couple days later on Nov. 6, sometime between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., the poppy donation tin from the TD Bank on 32 Street was also taken.

Both businesses have video surveillance and police will be reviewing the footage.
