KELOWNA – A man left two kids age five and 10 inside a truck in the heat of the day for half an hour, but he took a young girl with him inside the air-conditioned store.
Temperatures had hit 33 Celsius by 3:25 p.m. July 11 when Kelowna RCMP received the call children were left alone inside a hot vehicle at Walmart, located at 1555 Banks Road. The two boys were removed from the Ford pickup truck and immediately assessed by paramedics.
The driver, a 41-year-old Kelowna man, arrived shortly after and was arrested. The youngest boy's mom was called and he was handed into her care. The Ministry of Children and Families were called to help return the older children to their mother.
The man was released, but police are recommending he be charged with failing to provide the necessities of life. He's scheduled to appear in court September 25.
The Kelowna RCMP want to remind the public it is never ok to leave a child or pet in a parked vehicle. The temperature, even in the shade with the windows partly open can rapidly reach levels that can cause serious harm, or even kill.
They say anyone who sees a child or animal in distress or in a locked car should call 911.

What is the matter with people…Leaving Pets in hot cars and Children. These animals and children do not deserve to be part of there family’s.. The fines for Animal Abuse needs to be stronger. Andthese people who leave children in there car the ministry needs to remove them. It truly is sad that there are loads of people with the basic COMMON SENSE! I am here speaking for those who cannot speak for them selves!
33 degrees Celsius equals 91.2 degrees Farenheit. (? sp) for those not familiar with the Celsius scale.
Tam, look at who their parents are.
Chris Flood They were probably on many other calls such as this.
Come on down to Phoenix, AZ Chris and you can spend some time in one of Sheriff Joe’s tents. It’s been nice, 109 Degree’s F, and that is with the “Wind Chill Factor”!
To answer your own question, Chris, yes, if your parents left you in unsafe conditions, knowing that there have been daily if not hourly warnings on the radio and television and you STILL put them in an unsafe condition, yes they should be arrested.I’m going to guess that the 30 minutes total was from someone noticing, someone going into the store to page, someone waiting, because yes we still give them a chanceto answer the page, to the time to call the police and for them to show up I would say 30 minutes is being very lenient.I don’t care if it was 10 minutes. It’s stinking hot outside take your kids into a nice air conditioned store.Too much trouble for you?Stuck with our own children and it is bothersome to you? Then don’t take the kids with you.Check out YouTube videos on humans sitting in hot cars to prove how hot it gets and how quickly.I challenge you to do it yourself for 1/2 the time, 15 minutes, in that heat.Come on tough boy, you think there is nothing wrong with this then prove it, because I can prove you wrong every single time.I see you work at Ensign Drilling.I wonder if they know about your intelligence.
stick him in a cell with a tent over it. so he gets no fresh air. just heat. and see how he likes it.you don’t learn until you’ve been put in the same situation usually. I see a lot of dumb parenting but this is stupid. he only took one child in out of the three. where are his priorities :(when your a parent you take all kids in with you anywhere you go.
that is what should be done charges laid like police are recommending.. People are so stupid.
