Former prep school student who lied to grand jury sentenced

CONCORD, N.H. – A former New Hampshire prep school student who lied to a grand jury investigating sexual misconduct at the school has been sentenced to community service.

The 28-year-old woman pleaded guilty Monday to two misdemeanour charges. A judge sentenced her to two six-month jail sentences, which won’t be imposed if she completes 500 hours of community work.

Prosecutors say the woman lied about her contact with former St. Paul’s teacher David Pook and hindered a broader criminal investigation into the Concord prep school’s handling of sexual misconduct and assault allegations going back decades. Last month, the attorney general’s office reached a settlement with the school that includes greater oversight in lieu of criminal charges.

Pook is serving four months in jail for telling the former student to lie about their relationship.
