Canadian women’s soccer team to close out warmup schedule against England

OTTAWA – The Canadian women’s soccer team will close out its World Cup warmup schedule with a game against England on May 29 at Hamilton’s Tim Hortons Field.

“Canada Soccer is excited to bring top women’s international soccer to Hamilton for the first time,” Canada Soccer president Victor Montagliani said Tuesday in a release. “More importantly, this will be a thrilling event and an incredible opportunity for fans in the southern Ontario area to see our women’s national team in action before they set out to compete at this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.”

The game will mark the official sendoff for the Canadian team before it opens its World Cup schedule June 6 against China at Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium.

Canada will play New Zealand in Edmonton on June 11 and the Netherlands in Montreal on June 15. The tournament wraps July 5 with the championship game in Vancouver.

England holds the No. 6 position in the FIFA rankings, three spots ahead of Canada.
