Wind Mobile hires Public Mobile founder as its new CEO; names new chairman

TORONTO – Wind Mobile has a new chief executive — Alek Krstajic, the founder and former CEO of Public Mobile.

Wind and Public Mobile were among the companies that emerged a few years ago after Ottawa took steps to increase competition in Canada’s wireless communications industry.

Public Mobile has since been purchased by Telus Corp. (TSX:T).

Wind founder Anthony Lacavera is also being replaced as chairman, but the company says he will still play an active role as honorary chairman.

Lacavera says Wind will be strengthened by Krstajic’s experience at Public Mobile, Bell Mobility and Rogers Cable.

Wind’s board of directors will have three new members including Rob MacLellan, chairman of Northleaf Capital Partners, who will replace Lacavera as chairman.

Interim Wind chief executive Pietro Cordova will return to Vimpelcom — a Russian-Dutch company that had been majority owner of Toronto-based Wind until it was bought out by a consortium.
