Violent, armed break and enter at Kelowna home

KELOWNA – RCMP are looking for a pair of suspects they say broke into a home on Christleton Avenue in Kelowna and assaulted one of the residents Saturday afternoon.

Police were called to the home on the 400 block at around 2:30 p.m. on Boxing Day, Dec. 26, with reports of a violent break and enter.

Const. Jesse O’ O'Donaghey says in a media release police are in the initial stages of this investigation, however they have determined that two suspects gained entry into the residence through an unlocked door.

A 29-year-old Kelowna man and a 27-year-old Kelowna woman were both inside the home at the time.

“Once inside the home the suspects each produced a weapon and made efforts to prevent the residents from leaving the home. The 29-year-old man was assaulted by the suspects who were later spooked by the emergency sirens of what police believe was a passing ambulance,” he says.

The suspects fled the scene in an SUV before police arrived and blocked off a portion of Christleton Avenue for almost three hours.

The man was taken to Kelowna General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was released later that day.

The first suspect is described as a Caucasian male with short, buzzed brown hair, approximately 5'8" tall. The second suspect is also a Caucasian male with short buzzed hair and approximately 5’10” tall.

Police believe the suspects are known to the residents and that this was a targeted attack.

If you have information that may be helpful to the ongoing investigation and have not yet spoken to police please call the Kelowna RCMP Const. Barnard at 250-762-3300.
