Most actively traded companies on the TSX

Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (15,027.53, down 55.32 points):

Baytex Energy Corp. (TSX:BTE). Oil and gas. Up 20 cents, or 3.47 per cent, to $5.96 on 14.6 million shares.

Encana Corp. (TSX:ECA). Oil and gas. Up 12 cents, or 0.71 per cent, to $16.99 on 8.9 million shares.

MEG Energy Corp. (TSX:MEG). Oil and gas. Up 76 cents, or 11.19 per cent, to $7.55 on 8.9 million shares.

Canopy Growth Corp. (TSX:CGC). Drug manufacturer. Down 45 cents, or 3.81 per cent, to $11.35 on 7.3 million shares. Marijuana producer Canopy Growth Corp. is offering to buy Mettrum Health Corp. (TSXV:MT) (up $1.68, or 28.38 per cent, to $7.60 on six million shares) in a friendly all-stock deal valued at $430 million. Mettrum shareholders will be entitled to receive 0.7132 of a common share of Canopy under the offer, which would create a company with six facilities licensed to produce medical marijuana products.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Down four cents, or 1.23 per cent, to $3.21 on 7.1 million shares.

Canexus Corp. (TSX:CUS). Chemicals. Unchanged at $1.55 on 6.6 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (TSX:CM). Bank. Up $2.36, or 2.23 per cent, to $108.34 on 2.7 million shares. CIBC is reporting $931-million of net income in its fourth quarter, up 20 per cent from $778 million in the same time last year. The Toronto-based bank is also raising its quarterly dividend by three cents per share to $1.24 per share, with the first payment at the higher rate coming on Jan. 31.
