Home invasion suspects arrested after standoff with RCMP

KELOWNA – A pair of suspects accused of an armed home invasion were arrested Monday following several hours of negotiation outside a home on Bernard Ave.

The men are accused of breaking into a home on Findlay Road and robbing at gun point a 41-year-old Kelowna man who was sleeping in his home early Monday morning.

RCMP Const. Kris Clark says a small amount of cash was stolen and the two men were later identified by police, who tracked them to a residence on the 700 block of Bernard Ave.

It took a police negotiator until 1 a.m. to coax the two men from the home and RCMP say three other people were also arrested for unrelated offences. Police also seized stolen property believed to be associated with several cases in Vernon and Penticton.

“Any time there is an Emergency Response Team deployment a negotiator attempts to make contact first,” Clark says. “That reduces the risk for everybody involved.”

All five suspects are expected to appear in court today, May 20.
