KELOWNA – The Everett Silvertips defeated the Kelowna Rockes 3-2 in overtime on Friday night, Jan. 8, at Prospera Place in Kelowna, coming from behind to beat the Rockets in 3-on-3 overtime.
Cole MacDonald scored the game winner at 2:50 of overtime completing a comeback to beat the Rockets after Everett had scored with under five to go in the third to tie the game.
The loss dropped the Rockets record to 28-10-3-0 as they picked up a point for the overtime loss and remain in first place overall in the WHL.
The Rockets opened the scoring just 3:31 into the first period when Rourke Chartier struck for his seventh goal of the season. It was Chartier's first game since returning from the World Junior Hockey Championship and just his 11th game of the season.
After Everett tied the game, WHL-leading scorer Tyson Baillie struck for his 25th of the season. Defenceman Cal Foote assisted on both of the first two Rockets goals.
The second and much of the third was scoreless until Everett tied the game.
The Rockets are back in action Saturday night at Prospera Place when they host the Tri-City Americans.
