WINDSOR, Ont. – Badly outshot, and at times badly outplayed, the Flint Firebirds still made the best of limited opportunities Sunday to knock off the host Windsor Spitfires 4-3 and grab a 3-2 lead in their Ontario Hockey League series.
After the Spitfires scored the game’s first two goals, Flint fought back with four straight until the Spitfires closed within one for the final period. And despite outshooting Flint 15-3 in the third period, and 45-19 overall, Windsor couldn’t beat Flint netminder Luke Cavallin down the stretch.
Brennan Othmann, Zacharie Giroux, Amadeus Lombardi and Tag Bertuzzi scored for the Firebirds, who will be looking to win the series in Flint on Tuesday.
Wyatt Johnston, Alex Christopoulos and Will Cuylle scored for Windsor.
The winner of this series will face the Hamilton Bulldogs in the OHL Final. Hamilton swept the North Bay Battalion 4-0.
