Have Leafs fallen down corporate pecking order? MLSE boss talks up other teams
TORONTO – How low have the Toronto Maple Leafs sunk this season?
Tim Leiweke, president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, doesn’t even have the slumping NHL team in his top two franchises.
During a tour Friday of BMO Field, Leiweke called Toronto FC “our love in life.”
“It’s certainly my second-highest priority right now, next to the Raptors,” he added.
With the Leafs’ season mercifully over Saturday night, perhaps the MLSE boss was just thinking about ongoing projects.
The slumping Leafs, 27th in the 30-team league with a 30-44-7 record, have gone 1-21-3 in their last 25 road games. And they have won just 11 of their last 50 games (11-35-4) home and away.
The Raptors, meanwhile, are headed to the NBA playoffs. Toronto FC (1-3-0) is struggling through an extended road trip due to the renovations at BMO Field.
