Pioneering F1 female team principal happy her 1st race in charge is back home in India
NEW DELHI – The first woman to lead a Formula One team has another reason to look forward to the Indian Grand Prix next week — it’s in her country of birth.
Monisha Kaltenborn was promoted from chief executive to become Sauber’s team principal last week, and she says her focus is on ensuring the team improves on its four podium finishes this season.
She says in a statement that the Indian GP will require “the same meticulous preparations and the same aspiration to achieve the best possible result,” but acknowledges “from a personal point of view, it’s rather different. Obviously, I’m particularly looking forward to this race in my home country.”
The 41-year-old Kaltenborn moved from India to Austria when she was 8.
Sauber is sixth in the F1 constructors’ standings on 116 points, 251 behind leader Red Bull.
