Transport Canada ‘satisfied’ with Kamloops diesel spill cleanup, ends investigation

KAMLOOPS – Government officials are no longer investigating a Christmas Day diesel spill in a Kamloops rail yard after determining the companies involved took appropriate steps to clean it up.

On Dec. 25, 8,000 litres of diesel spilled in the CN rail yard during a fuel transfer from a rail car to a truck. Officials with the Ministry of Environment said no waterways were impacted and a vacuum truck managed to clean up the area.

Transport Canada investigated the spill to determine if there were any violations under the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act.

"Transport Canada met with the companies involved and reviewed the incident. We are satisfied with the proposed corrective actions the companies are taking,” Sara Johnston, a spokesperson for Transport Canada says.
