VERNON – In an effort to protect wildlife, the North Okanagan Regional District now owns more than 13 acres of land along Swan Lake.
The purchase of the property will allow the regional district to connect Crane Road to Lochdale Road with a passive recreation trail, according a media release from the regional district.
“In addition to being a popular recreation site, Swan Lake provides critical habitat for waterfowl, and we took advantage of the opportunity to protect more of the riparian areas surrounding it by purchasing the property for passive parkland,” Electoral Area 'B' director Bob Fleming says in the release.
The district wants to begin turning the property into a 'passive nature park' later this year.
It will open once it is developed enough to be safe for public use.
