Canadian quarterback Bridge released by Alouettes; Brodeur-Jourdain returns
MONTREAL – The Montreal Alouettes released Canadian quarterback Brandon Bridge on Monday.
Bridge, 24, known as Air Canada, was used only to run the ball on short-yardage situations this season, carrying three times for two yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The six-foot-four Toronto native was pressed into action in his first CFL game in 2015 when starter Jonathan Crompton and backup Dan LeFevour were both injured in the season opener against Ottawa. That made him the first Canadian quarterback to play in the league since Danny Brannagan in 2010.
He got his first career start in the final game of the regular season against Saskatchewan, completing 21 of 30 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns. Bridge was drafted from South Alabama in the fourth round by Montreal in 2015.
Meanwhile, veteran centre Luc Brodeur-Jourdain practised for the first time since tearing two right knee ligaments in the next-to-last game of the 2015 campaign.
