‘Scary Lucy’ no more: Town reveals new Lucille Ball statue

CELORON, N.Y. – A new statue of Lucille Ball has been unveiled in the late actress’ hometown to replace one that was dubbed “Scary Lucy.”

Hundreds of fans gathered Saturday in Lucille Ball Memorial Park in the western New York village of Celoron (SEHL’-ur-ahn). They watched as the tarp was removed from the statue made by sculptor Carolyn Palmer.

An unflattering version by another artist was banished after a Facebook campaign named, “We Love Lucy! Get Rid of this Statue.”

The new statue is being shown as part of this year’s Lucille Ball Comedy Festival in nearby Jamestown.

Celoron Mayor Scott Schrecengost says “Scary Lucy” will be given another spot in the park.
