2 workers safe at Cincinnati building with loose scaffolding

CINCINNATI – Emergency responders say two workers were able to safely escape from a scaffold dangling from a downtown Cincinnati high-rise.

Cincinnati police spokesman Lt. Steve Saunders says the two were able to “self-rescue” and scrambled onto a lower roof area Tuesday. Witnesses say the workers appeared to be at about 20 stories up on the 27-story U.S. Bank Tower.

Police temporarily closed the busy street near the building around noon.

It wasn’t known immediately what kind of work was being done when the scaffolding came partly loose. A message was left for a scaffolding company official.

Meanwhile, a U.S. Bancorp spokeswoman says the company is grateful there were no injuries. Cheryl Leamon says the company is working with building and safety officials to assess the situation.
