UPDATE: Head-on collision claims life of woman on Highway 33 east of Kelowna

KELOWNA – A 30-year-old Kelowna woman was killed in a head-on collision on Highway 33 in Joe Rich this morning.

RCMP say at about 9:30 a.m., Jan. 29, an eastbound Pontiac sedan lost control and travelled into the oncoming lane at Cardinal Creek, hitting a westbound Dodge pickup and sending it into the ditch.

The driver, and only one in the sedan, was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.

A 24-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, both from the Lower Mainland, in the pickup were taken to Kelowna General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 33 was closed for over two hours as emergency crews worked and a RCMP traffic analyst investigated.

No word yet from investigators on what caused the driver of the Pontiac to cross the centre line.
