Ex-Tenn. school officials respond to lawsuit in rape case

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Three former officials at a Tennessee high school are seeking a dismissal of a lawsuit filed against them regarding the rape and assault of a freshman basketball player in an apparent hazing incident.

The former principal, assistant principal and basketball coach at Ooltewah High School were responding to a complaint filed by a victim who says they knew athletes were being abused and did nothing about it.

The former officials say they should not be held liable for assault.

Three former Ooltewah players were convicted this year of juvenile charges in the December assault of a teammate. One was convicted of aggravated rape and aggravated assault. Two others were convicted of aggravated assault.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press first reported the response.
