Kamloops middle school students share stage with Juno winner

KAMLOOPS – Students from Brocklehurst Middle School in Kamloops took to the stage Wednesday night, Feb. 3, with Johnny Reid for one of his biggest songs.

Music teacher Jarrett Schill says his students were nervous at first, but that grew into excitement as their time on stage approached.

“They were very nervous at the soundcheck,” Shill says. “They got used to the space though and kicked it up volume-wise.”

The rush stayed with them after they performed Today I’m Gonna Try To Change The World.

“They were over the moon super excited,” he says. “They were on a high.”

Schill was in the crowd for their performance, as were some of the students' parents and over 3,500 strangers.

Reid was a gracious host as well, talking with the kids before the show and during sound check.

“They got to meet Johhny for a group picture and a signed poster, so they thought that was pretty cool,” Shill says.

The students were offered the opportunity through the Miscounts Foundation, which Reid is a strong supporter of. A dollar from every ticket he sells on this tour goes to the foundation, which sponsors school music programs. Brocklehurst Middle School received one of these grants a couple years ago.
