NEW ORLEANS – The inaugural Essence Festival Durban in South Africa has added Grammy Award-winning singer Ne-Yo and gospel duo Mary Mary to its lineup.
Organizers Friday announced those additions as well as Wizkid, Riky Rick, AKA and Ladysmith Black Mambazo for the Nov. 8-13 event being held at the International Convention Center and the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
As the sister event to the annual Essence Festival New Orleans, Essence Festival Durban also will feature local performers including record producer and DJ Black Coffee, actress and singer Nondumiso Tembe, kwaito group Big Nuz, Wololo hitmaker Babes Wodumo, Fuse Academy co-founder DJ Zinhle and Afro-jazz musician Thandiswa Mazwai.
On the event’s final day, Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Yolanda Adams will be honoured during the All-Star Gospel Tribute.
