VERNON – Police handed out 59 speeding tickets Friday along the Highway 97 construction zone south of the city by Crystal Waters Road.
The operation was in force for four hours in the new stretch of Highway 97. It was designed to help keep highway construction workers safe in the area where the speed limit goes from 90 to 70 to 50 km/h.
While many drivers were caught speeding, another was given a ticket for driving without insurance while another was caught without a seatbelt. Ten warnings were given during stops. Only one vehicle was impounded. The driver was unlicensed and had one previous ticket for driving without a licence.
