Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (15,028.12, up 47.40 points):

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Down two cents, or 0.66 per cent, to $3.03 on 16.3 million shares.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Up three cents, or 1.48 per cent, to $2.06 on 8.4 million shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Aerospace, rail equipment. Up 13 cents, or 5.10 per cent, to $2.68 on 7.7 million shares. The Quebec-based company, one of the world’s biggest manufacturers of planes and trains, is cutting about 1,750 employees in Montreal, Toronto and Ireland over the coming months because of weak demand for its largest business jets.

Legacy Oil + Gas Inc. (TSX:LEG). Oil and gas. Down two cents, or 0.72 per cent, to $2.75 on 4.7 million shares.

Semafo Inc. (TSX:SMF). Miner. Up three cents, or 0.78 per cent, to $3.88 on 4.2 million shares.

Ram Power, Corp. (TSX:RPG). Utilitties. Down half-a-cent, or 50 per cent, to half-a-cent on 3.8 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Canadian Tire (TSX:CTC.A). Retailer. Up $1.67, or 1.32 per cent, to $128.11 on 205,813 shares. Its president and CEO Michael Medline says the days of telling customers the ways they can shop are over and that his company needs to become more flexible in how it sells products in both its stores and online.

Gildan Activewear (TSX:GIL). Apparel maker. Up $2.25, or 6.06 per cent, to $39.36 on 1.4 million shares. The company says it’s getting an early buzz from the first commercials featuring country music star Blake Shelton, one of the coaches on “The Voice.” Gildan CEO Glenn Chamandy says the singer resonates strongly with its target consumer market — women.
