Fiancé of German ex-chancellor rejects ex-husband’s demands

BERLIN – The South Korean fiancé of former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has spoken out about reports that her ex-husband was suing Schroeder for financial compensation.

News agency Dpa quoted South Korean media reports Monday that Soyeon Kim’s ex-husband was demanding around 77,000 euros (92,620 dollars) in financial compensation from Schroeder because the former politician’s relationship with Kim had caused him “unbearable soul pain.”

In a statement Tuesday, Kim said Schroeder wasn’t responsible for the collapse for her marriage and he did not owe her ex-husband any compensation.

The couple announced in January that they want to get married this fall. It would be Schroeder’s fifth marriage.
