VANCOUVER – Closing arguments are expected early this week in the B.C. trial of two alleged terrorists.
The Crown alleges John Nuttall and Amanda Korody plotted to set off homemade bombs on the crowded lawn of the B.C. legislature on Canada Day in 2013.
Both have pleaded not guilty to three terrorism-related charges: conspiring to commit murder, possessing explosives on behalf of a terrorist group and conspiring to place explosives on behalf of a terrorist group.
The B.C. Supreme Court jury has been shown hours of video and audio surveillance collected during an elaborate RCMP sting operation involving undercover officers posing as members of a terrorist organization.
Nuttall, who along with Korody converted to Islam, was heard on some recordings talking about the need to get justice for what he perceived to be the persecution of Muslims.
Defence lawyers tried to portray the couple as being victims of police pressure.
Neither suspect testified during the trial.
