Arrest in burglary, vandalism of California Route 66 Museum
VICTORVILLE, Calif. – Authorities say surveillance footage has led to the arrest of a suspect in the burglary and vandalism at the California Route 66 Museum.
The roadside attraction in Victorville east of Los Angeles reported more than $5,000 in thefts and damage following the break-in last week.
The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reports Sunday that 25-year-old Roy Fonder has been charged with burglary, attempted burglary and vandalism. It wasn’t immediately known if he has an attorney. Bail is set at $200,000.
The newspaper says Fonder’s case has been suspended, pending a mental health hearing scheduled for March 7.
The museum commemorates the fabled Route 66, the first highway to connect the Midwest and the West Coast when it opened in 1926.
An online fundraising campaign seeks to raise money for repairs and to replace stolen items.
