Police chopper stirs debris during Penn State crowd control

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – A police helicopter responding to what state troopers say were unruly tailgaters before Penn State’s home game with Ohio State blew over tents and kicked up debris, with stunned reactions by onlookers recorded on social media.

Pennlive.com reported Monday that a trooper suffered a broken wrist and two horses were assaulted before the helicopter was brought in Saturday.

A state police spokesman says a horse-mounted team was first summoned when a party with more than 500 revelers got out of hand.

He says tailgaters ignored commands, so troopers on the ground were called back and the chopper was summoned.

Police say the helicopter got close to the ground so partygoers could hear commands over a speaker.

They say when tailgate items started flying around, the chopper gained altitude.
