Most actively traded companies on the TSX

Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (14,830.88, down 58.16 points):

Carpathian Gold Inc. (TSX:CPN). Miner. Up half-a-cent, or 33.33 per cent, to two cents on 14.8 million shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Aerospace, rail equipment. Up two cents, or 0.79 per cent, to $2.55 on 7.5 million shares.

Argex Titanium Inc. (TSX:RGX). Chemicals. Up 2.5 cents, or 18.52 per cent, to 16 cents on 4.8 million shares.

Trinidad Drilling Ltd. (TSX:TDG). Oil and gas. Down 46 cents, or 9.70 per cent, to $4.28 on 4.4 million shares. Trinidad Drilling and CanElson Drilling Inc. (TSX:CDI) (up 22 cents, or 5.15 per cent, to $4.49 on 2.7 million shares) have agreed to merge in a deal worth $505 million. Trinidad will acquire all CanElson shares for either $4.90 cash or 1.06 Trinidad shares per CanElson share, representing a 23.5 per cent premium to CanElson’s 20-day average trading price.

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Financial Services. Down 17 cents, or 0.71 per cent, to $23.80 on 3.9 million shares.

Encana Corp. (TSX:ECA). Oil and gas. Down 15 cents, or 0.98 per cent, to $15.09 on 3.8 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Loblaw Companies Ltd. (TSX:L). Grocer. Down 64 cents, or one per cent, to $63.59 on 316,307 shares. Loblaw promises that by the end of 2018 it will stop manufacturing household and cosmetic products that contain Triclosan, phthalates or microbeads, a move that has won kudos from environmentalists.
