Mother of 2 granted extension to stay in the US
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A Rhode Island mother of two who spent a month in immigration detention has been granted an extension to her stay of deportation.
WPRI-TV reports that Immigration and Customs Enforcement granted Lilian Calderon an extension to her stay of removal, which expired May 12.
Calderon can remain in the U.S. until mid-August, which she says gives her time to get her immigration waivers approved.
Calderon was detained in January after a routine interview with immigration officials to discuss her marriage to a U.S citizen. The Guatemala native was brought to the U.S. when she was 3.
She is the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union against the Trump administration, which alleges the administration is illegally targeting people married to U.S. citizens and pursing lawful immigration status.
