Microsoft touts backward compatibility of Xbox One for Xbox 360 games, shows off HoloLens

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Microsoft is promising that hundreds of games designed for its older Xbox 360 will also work on its newer Xbox One console starting this year. It’s also showing off how its HoloLens headset can be used to play “Minecraft” via hologram on a coffee table.

Microsoft’s presentation on Monday kicked off its presence at E3 in Los Angeles, the annual video game conference — the world’s largest.

The company also showed footage of Xbox One games coming this holiday season, including “Halo 5: Guardians” and “Rise of the Tomb Raider,” as well as “Gears of War 4,” available next year.

Microsoft said in April it had sold 10 million Xbox One units since launch in November 2013. Sony said that by March it had sold 22.3 million PlayStation 4s.
