KAMLOOPS – Last night's thunder and lightning storm brought some great photos and kept B.C. Wildfire crews busy and it isn't over yet— more lightning is expected today.
While social media brought some of the best pictures, B.C. Wildfire crews were positioned and ready for the storm, which brought 10 spot fires in the area.
"We knew it was coming," says Wildfire spokesperson Kayla Pepper. "We were tracking the system moving through… and initial attack crews were able to work with local fire departments to (find them.) Everything right now is still spot fires."
Of more concern, she says, is four campfires they found yesterday and two more fires that are under investigation. The entire region is under a strict campfire ban and they need cooperation from the public, especially at these times, she says.
"Our crews are going to be very busy over the next few days responding to lightning-caused fires," she says.
