Quick response to Lake Country church fire saves building

LAKE COUNTRY – Fire crews knocked down a fire at a church in Lake Country this morning.

A District of Lake Country employee spotted the fire in some cedar trees against St. Edwards Roman Catholic Church at 11123 Okanagan Centre Road East just after 11a.m., April 15, and called 911.

Fire from the cedars spread to the building and the flames had already travelled up 40 feet into the attic when firefighters arrived.

Crews quickly put on the blaze, getting it knocked down mostly a garden hose left in the yard of the church.

Firefighters say the situation could have been much worse if they hadn’t arrived so quickly.
