Three small lightning-caused wildfires burning west of Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – There are three small wildfires burning in the Texas Creek and Enterprise Creek areas.

The fires burning in Texas Creek are under two hectares and the fire northeast of Enterprise Creek is at about five hectares. Both are close enough to Lillooet that smoke can be seen from town.

Steep terrain and daytime heating could allow the fires to grow as the day progresses, according to a press release from the Kamloops Fire Centre.

There are currently ten sustained-action firefighters and a three-person rapple crew hauling water and working on containment in Texas Creek. At Enterprise Creek, airtankers dripped retardant around the fire while a helicopter was brought in to cool the blaze. Access to this fire is being created by firefighters.

Both fires are suspected to be lightning-caused by a weather system that moved though the area August 3. No structures are currently at risk.
