Tropical storm forms in Pacific; no threat to land

MEXICO CITY – A new tropical storm has formed over the Pacific Ocean, but it’s expected to be short-lived and doesn’t threaten land.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Dalila was centred about 580 miles (935 kilometres) west-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula Tuesday morning, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph).

It was heading to the north-northwest at 8 mph (13 kph)

Forecasters say the storm is expected to start weakening later Tuesday and slip to a remnant low by Wednesday night.
