Quebec man charged with murder in connection with dismemberment of fiancee

MONTREAL – A Quebec man has been charged with first-degree murder in the slaying and dismemberment of his fiancee.

Nicholas Fontanelli, 22, appeared in a Montreal courtroom this afternoon and was also charged with committing an indignity to Samantha Higgins’ body.

The couple had two young children.

Higgins, 22, was found in a plastic bag last week in Hinchinbrooke, about 60 kilometres south of Montreal.

Fontanelli did not enter a plea and will remain behind bars until his next court appearance, on Aug. 17.
