NDP pick Matt Toner for Vancouver riding; opponent may include former mayor
VANCOUVER – The B.C. New Democrats have chosen a candidate who could face off against a former Vancouver mayor in next May’s provincial election.
Members of the Opposition NDP have selected Matt Toner as their candidate in Vancouver-False Creek.
The riding’s current representative, Liberal Mary McNeil, won’t be running in the next election, leaving the district without an incumbent.
The Liberals have yet to select their candidate, but former Vancouver mayor Sam Sullivan is seeking the nomination.
Lorne Mayencourt, a Liberal who once represented the former riding of Vancouver-Burrard, has said he’s also considering running for his party’s nomination in Vancouver-False Creek.
Matt Toner teaches at the Vancouver Film School, Simon Fraser University’s School of Interactive Arts and Technology, and at the Centre for Digital Media.
The next provincial election is scheduled for May 14 of next year.
