10 suspects linked to Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast attacks

OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso – Authorities say they now have arrested 10 people in connection with attacks in Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast, most of them charged with providing help and shelter to the jihadists.

Burkina Faso’s security minister Simon Compaore announced Thursday that a prosecutor has been named to further investigate.

The January attack on Burkina Faso’s capital targeted a restaurant and hotel, leaving 30 dead. In March, jihadists attacked a beach in Ivory Coast leaving at least 19 dead.

Al-Qaida’s North Africa branch claimed responsibility for both attacks.

Compaore said three of the 10 suspects are directly implicated while the other seven are accused of helping the jihadists. The minister said some of the suspects provided heavy drugs to the suicide bombers.
