Alberta’s Marks defeats Quebec’s Gauthier at junior curling championship

LANGLEY, B.C. – Alberta’s Abby Marks defeated Quebec’s Noemie Gauthier 8-0 in six ends Friday to secure a tiebreak berth at the Canadian junior curling championship.

Marks (6-4) will play New Brunswick’s Melodie Forsythe (6-4) on Saturday for a spot in the semifinals against Nova Scotia’s Taylour Stevens (8-2).

“Good team management and good team shots helped us win,” Marks said after her win over Gauthier.

Manitoba’s Mackenzie Zacharias (10-0) awaits the semifinal winner in the gold medal match Sunday. Zacharias earned a berth directly into the final by finishing as the top seeded team after the championship round.

Also Friday, Prince Edward Island’s Lauren Ferguson (3-6) downed Yukon’s Bayly Scoffin (0-9) by a score of 14-3 in a seeding-round match. Men’s seeding play saw Sawer Kaeser of the Northwest Territories (2-7) earn a 6-5 win over Quebec’s Greg Cheal (1-8).
