Pan Am gold medallist Shawn Barber betters his Canadian pole vault record
LONDON, England – Days after winning gold at the Pan American Games, Shawn Barber has broken his Canadian record in the pole vault.
The 21-year-old cleared 5.93 metres to win silver at the Diamond League meet at London’s Olympic Stadium on Saturday.
Renaud Lavillenie of France, ranked No. 1 in the world, won the gold with 6.03.
Barber’s jump ranks him No. 2 in the world.
Barber, who lists Toronto as his hometown, but grew up in the U.S., has bettered his own Canadian record numerous times this season, most recently setting a mark of 5.91 in May.
He won gold at the Pan Am Games on Wednesday with a jump of 5.80, missing at all three attempts at 5.93.
