Authorities seize $45M worth of cocaine in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – U.S. authorities say they confiscated nearly 4,000 pounds (1,800 kilograms) of cocaine in Puerto Rico discovered when officers served an arrest warrant.

Officials describe it as the largest seizure of cocaine in the U.S. territory, but have given no details on previous drug hauls.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Wednesday that the seized cocaine is worth about $45 million. Authorities said the drugs were found when agents arrived at a home in the capital of San Juan to serve a federal arrest warrant for a drug-trafficking charge.

Seven men from the Dominican Republic have been detained in the case. Four of them were arrested in Puerto Rico.
