Busy week on the roads for Penticton RCMP

PENTICTON – It was an interesting week on the roads of Penticton, with officers finding drugs, ammunition, open liquor and even a car stuck in a tree.

A rollover on Tuesday night, May 17, on Green Lake Road sent two people to hospital. RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says the vehicle went off the road, injuring the three occupants. Impaired driving is suspected in the crash, which sent the female driver and one passenger to Kelowna General Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police responded to reports of a vehicle stuck in a tree on May 19 around 6:45 p.m. On scene at 672 Pickering Dr., officers found a vehicle with Alberta plates had driven off the south side of Hillside Road, down an embankment into a back yard. The vehicle was damaged enough to require towing, and two metal fence posts were damaged on the property.

The female driver had left the scene but later appeared at the Penticton detachment to report the collision. She was ticketed for failing to remain at the scene.

Police attended four motor vehicle incidents on Saturday, May 21, including a rollover on the Channel Parkway which resulted in minor injuries to the occupants.

Police also pulled over a grey Toyota Matrix Saturday night, after spotting the vehicle’s windows covered in plastic and the license plate hanging by a single screw, with no validation tag.

The driver was found to be prohibited from driving, and also in possession of drug paraphernalia and ammunition. The driver was arrested for breaching conditions of driving while prohibited and possession of ammunition, and was released on a promise to appear. The vehicle was impounded and the driver fined a total of $937 for no insurance, open liquor and driving contrary to restrictions.
