B.C. Hydro holding open house for back-up power line into West Kelowna
WEST KELOWNA – B.C. Hydro wants to hear what locals think of its plan for a back-up electrical transmission line into the Westside.
The fire knocked out power to 22,000 customers for nine hours and revealed the vulnerability of the single 138-kilovolt line running from Merritt to a substation near Shannon Lake.
Premier Christy Clark, who is also the MLA for Westside-Kelowna, stepped in and announced government funding for a back-up line with the same capacity but taking a different route to West Kelowna.
B.C. Hydro will hold an open house Tuesday, June 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Westbank Lions Community Centre, 2466 Main Street, West Kelowna.
