Stephen Fuhr to host town hall discussion on electoral reform

OKANAGAN – Stephen Fuhr invites residents of the Okanagan to participate in a town hall discussion as part of the national public consultation on Canadian federal electoral reform.

Federal electoral reform is part of the Government of Canada’s commitment to strengthen our democracy.

The Special Committee on Electoral Reform is tasked with leading a national consultation process on Canadian federal electoral reform. Members of Parliament are hosting town halls across the country. Canadians have the opportunity to participate in this national dialogue and shape our future electoral system at the federal level.

The Committee is currently studying alternate voting systems to replace the first-past-the-post system, as well considering mandatory voting and online voting. Principles to be discussed at the town hall include: effectiveness and legitimacy of the voting system; engagement and participation; accessibility and inclusiveness; integrity of the voting system; and accountability of local representation.

By attending town halls and participating in online discussions, Canadians are invited to reflect on these principles and share their ideas on the future of our democracy. Canadians can learn more about the Government’s commitment to electoral reform by visiting Canada.ca/democracy.
